Every Candidate We Put Forward Is Real: Why We've Partnered With TurboCheck

The CV is flawless. The LinkedIn profile checks out. The video interview goes beautifully, sharp answers, good eye contact, the right energy. The offer goes out, a laptop ships, a VPN token is issued.

And then, weeks later, the truth surfaces: the person who was hired was never real.

This isn't a hypothetical anymore. It's one of the defining hiring stories of the moment, and it has a name recruiters now say with a sigh: thefake candidate. It's also why we've partnered with TurboCheck the world's #1 job applicant fraud detection platform, so that every candidate Primis puts forward is verified as real.

Did you know? One in four candidate profiles could be fake by 2028

That figure comes from Gartner, and it isn't a scare stat, t’s where hiring is heading. Experian has placed deepfake candidates among its top five fraud threats for the year, and in recent UK research, 69% of hiring leaders named AI-enabled impersonation and deepfake technology as the most sophisticated emerging threat to recruitment integrity.

For anyone hiring at volume and for the staffing partners they rely on, changes the whole exercise. Every interview is now, quietly, an identity-verification event.

Candidate fraud has moved way past CV padding

The old worry was an inflated job title or a stretched date. The new reality is a different order of problem entirely. AI now makes it possible to fake an identity outright, clone a voice, or swap a face onto a live video interview in real time, mid-call.

The uncomfortable part is how easy it's become. Researchers at Palo Alto Networks found that someone withzeroimage-manipulation experience can build a fake candidate capable of passing a video interview in roughly 70 minutes. The tools aren't exotic; they're cheap, widely available, and improving every month.

And the people using them have changed too.

What started with a handful of moonlighters juggling multiple salaries has grown into organised crime groups and nation-state actors deliberately targeting hiring pipelines for money, data, and access. A single bad hire is no longer just an awkward conversation, it can mean stolen data, compromised systems, or a fraudster with legitimate internal credentials.

The numbers back it up: 41% of security and risk leaders say their organisation has already hired a fraudulent candidate. Not "nearly." Already. Badge, credentials, and a paycheck included.

Why the old checks can't keep up

The traditional playbook assumed the person in front of you was, at minimum, a real person. That assumption no longer holds.

CVs can be generated. References can be fabricated or answered by an accomplice. Even the live video interview, once the ultimate gut-check, is now being defeated in real time. In one industry survey, the majority of hiring professionals admitted that job seekers are now better at faking with AI than recruiters are at catching it.

Some of the biggest names have responded by bringing back mandatory in-person interviews. That works if you're a global enterprise hiring locally. It doesn't scale for remote roles, high-volume staffing, or cross-border hiring which is exactly where fake candidates concentrate.

That's why we've partnered with TurboCheck

Rather than treating verification as a box ticked after the offer, TurboCheck runs fraud detection across the entire journey from initial application, through interviews, reference checks, and employment verification. A few of the ways it catches what a human interviewer can't:

Online footprint analysis: TurboCheck cross-checks a candidate's identity against 40+ online sources such as LinkedIn, GitHub, and more to surface fabricated personas in seconds. A polished profile with no credible history behind it is a red flag it won't miss.

Device and identity corroboration: When two "different" candidates share the same device fingerprint, they're the same person. TurboCheck spots the patterns that proxies and multi-role fraudsters rely on.

Deepfake-resistant biometric verification: A government ID is validated and matched to a live selfie using liveness detection, proof of a real, present human, completed in around 700 milliseconds, with global document support for cross-border and remote hires.

Rigorous reference and employment verification :Automated, consistent checks close the loophole that fabricated referees walk straight through.

The point isn't to slow hiring down. It's to let honest candidates move through faster while the fakes get caught before they ever reach a hiring manager, let alone a VPN token.

What this means for you

Partnering with TurboCheck isn't about adding friction. For our clients, it means:

Faster hiring: genuine candidates are cleared quickly and confidently.

Less risk: fakes are stopped before they enter your business.

Total confidence in who you're actually meeting: verified, from first application to onboarding.

We're ahead of the curve, so you don't have to be the screening happens on our side, built in as standard.

Fake candidates aren't a passing fad; they're a structural shift in what hiring has to defend against.

The organisations that will still trust who they hired in 2028 are the ones treating identity as something toverify, not assume today. With TurboCheck built into how we work, that's a guarantee we can make on your behalf.
