Are you a hands-on Data Engineering leader who enjoys solving complex financial data challenges, building scalable platforms, and leading high-performing teams through fast-moving delivery environments?
We’re partnering with a rapidly growing global payments organization that is building the next generation of enterprise data and compliance platforms and they’re looking for a Manager, Data Engineering to play a key role in that journey.
This is not a “people manager only” role. You’ll lead a small team while remaining deeply involved in architecture, delivery, engineering direction, and technical decision-making. The work sits at the intersection of data engineering, financial compliance, and platform modernization, making it an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys both strategic ownership and hands-on problem solving.
You’ll help drive a large-scale safeguarding and transaction reconciliation initiative designed to support evolving global regulatory requirements, while also helping modernize the broader data platform toward a cloud-native Snowflake/DBT ecosystem.
What makes this role interesting
High-impact role tied directly to enterprise compliance and financial safeguarding initiatives
Opportunity to shape and influence technical direction with significant autonomy
Blend of leadership, architecture, delivery ownership, and hands-on engineering
Collaborative engineering culture with strong cross-functional partnership
Chance to help modernize a large-scale data platform into a Snowflake/DBT/Airflow environment
Real ownership - this team values outcomes, initiative, and pragmatic problem-solving over heavy process
The Role
You’ll lead a small team of Data Engineers focused on building scalable data solutions that support transaction matching, reconciliation, safeguarding, and regulatory reporting capabilities.
This role requires someone who can balance multiple responsibilities:
Defining and driving technical roadmaps
Managing delivery and sprint execution
Supporting and mentoring engineers
Staying hands-on with data pipelines and engineering decisions
Partnering with auditors, finance teams, product stakeholders, and leadership
The environment is Agile, collaborative, and fast-paced, with a strong emphasis on accountability, communication, and execution.
What You’ll Be Doing
Lead and mentor a team of Data Engineers in an Agile delivery environment
Own technical planning, roadmap alignment, sprint execution, and delivery tracking
Build and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines and enterprise data workflows
Partner with business, accounting, compliance, and product teams to deliver regulatory-focused data solutions
Design robust data processes that support safeguarding and reconciliation requirements
Drive automation and continuous improvement initiatives across the data platform
Remain hands-on with architecture, coding, reviews, and engineering problem solving
Help define best practices around data quality, testing, monitoring, and operational reliability
Clearly communicate technical solutions, trade-offs, risks, and delivery status to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Participate in discussions with auditors and compliance stakeholders to explain platform design, controls, and data processes
Support the evolution of the platform toward a modern Snowflake, DBT, Airflow, and cloud-based architecture
What They’re Looking For
8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Platform Engineering
Previous experience leading teams or acting as a technical lead in delivery-focused environments
Strong hands-on SQL and database experience across platforms such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, or Snowflake
Strong understanding of data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and enterprise data architecture
Experience building scalable data solutions in regulated or compliance-heavy environments is highly desirable
Ability to think through end-to-end data solutions and communicate technical decisions clearly
Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with sprint planning, roadmap ownership, and cross-functional collaboration
Some hands-on experience with Java or Groovy is beneficial, but deep expertise is not required
Exposure to cloud environments and modern data tooling such as Snowflake, DBT, or Airflow is advantageous
Comfortable leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools and modern development workflows
Strong communication, stakeholder management, and leadership skills
Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to work through complex regulatory and operational requirements
The Ideal Profile
This role would suit someone who:
Enjoys operating in highly accountable, delivery-focused environments
Can balance leadership responsibilities with technical contribution
Is comfortable navigating ambiguity and helping teams execute through change
Has experience building data platforms in financial services, payments, accounting, reconciliation, or compliance-driven domains
Can confidently explain technical solutions to auditors, business stakeholders, and engineering teams alike
Thrives in environments where autonomy, ownership, and collaboration are highly valued
If you’re looking for a role where you can combine technical leadership, hands-on engineering, and meaningful business impact within a modern payments environment, we’d love to hear from you.
