Job description
Manager – Data Engineering (Individual Contributor)
📍New York City | Hybrid (2–3 days)
💰Up to $140k + bonus
❌No Visa Sponsorship Available
We’re partnering with a fast-growing technology consultancy delivering cutting-edge work across Data, AI, and Cloud. They help enterprise organisations modernise their data ecosystems, accelerate delivery, and build scalable platforms that drive real business impact.
They’re now looking for a hands-on Manager (Data Engineering) to join their consulting team and lead delivery across enterprise data transformation engagements.
Despite the title, this is very much an Individual Contributor (IC) role rather than a people management position. This person will remain close to the technology, leading technical delivery and client engagements while staying hands-on with implementation work.
This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, working directly with enterprise clients, and driving delivery across modern data platform initiatives.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll take ownership of delivery across key client engagements, helping organisations design and implement modern cloud-based data platforms, with a strong focus on Databricks environments.
This role sits at the intersection of technical delivery, stakeholder management, and hands-on engineering.
You’ll be responsible for:
Leading delivery across data engineering projects and technical workstreams
Driving implementation of scalable cloud data platforms and pipelines
Working closely with enterprise clients to define scope, priorities, and delivery plans
Acting as a technical lead for Databricks-focused solutions
Remaining hands-on with engineering and solution delivery
Reviewing architecture, code quality, and engineering best practices
Managing risks, dependencies, and project milestones
Facilitating agile ceremonies and stakeholder workshops
Mentoring consultants within delivery teams
Supporting solution scoping, estimates, and technical proposals
Contributing to repeatable frameworks, delivery playbooks, and best practices
What They’re Looking For
Core Experience
Around 5+ years of experience within Data Engineering or related fields
Strong hands-on experience delivering modern cloud data platforms
Proven Databricks experience in enterprise environments
Previous consulting or client-facing experience is highly preferred
Comfortable owning delivery for projects or technical workstreams
Someone who enjoys remaining hands-on rather than moving into pure people management
Technical Skills
Strong Python and SQL experience
Experience building and optimising data pipelines
Strong understanding of ETL / ELT patterns
Experience with Spark and orchestration tools
Exposure to data warehousing, lakehouses, or analytical platforms
Experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
Understanding of CI/CD, testing, observability, and DataOps principles
Knowledge of data governance, security, and privacy considerations
Soft Skills
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
Comfortable working in fast-paced consulting environments
Collaborative, proactive, and delivery-focused
Passionate about mentoring others and driving engineering best practices
Nice to Have
Financial Services or Banking industry experience
Experience working on enterprise-scale transformation programmes
Exposure to modern data architecture and platform migrations
Why This Role?
High-impact enterprise transformation projects
Strong focus on modern Data & AI technologies
Opportunity to stay highly technical and hands-on
Collaborative consulting environment
Fast-moving, highly technical delivery teams
Clear career growth opportunities within a scaling consultancy
