Wellbeing, Inclusion and New Beginnings

​October is often seen as a month of transition, a time where screen time rises by 40%, darker mornings creep in, and the pumpkin spice lattes bring that familiar autumn comfort. Although it’s a season where the world seems to slow down and we pause before the year’s final sprint, it’s also a time of initiation of fresh starts, renewed focus, and re energised priorities.

 

It’s the perfect time to check in with ourselves and our teams. As the days shorten, wellbeing can take a toll, and inclusion can slip out of our hands where the workload rises.

 

So what can we change?

  • Introduce new wellbeing initiatives such as: Paddle, Pilates, Massages… anything that can help people get in the right headspace.

  • Re-evaluate how your inclusive hiring practices are: review job descriptions, diversify interview panels, and offer accessible interview options.

  • Encourage open conversation across your teams: hold regular check-ins, run “Let’s Talk” sessions about mental health and inclusion, and create a safe space for sharing ideas.

  • Celebrate Diversity and Inclusion moments - mark awareness days (ie, Global Diversity Month, Black History Month) with meaningful events or discussions

  • Flexible working options: Support hybrid schedules, mental health days, or adjusted work loads when needed.

  • Recognition and Appreciation- Acknowledge contribution and efforts publicly, fostering a sense of belonging and value.

 

In recruitment, these small initiations make a big difference. Anything from a kind email, a transparent interview process, or a workplace culture that genuinely supports balance can set the tone for inclusion, wellbeing, and a stronger, more connected team.

 

October is a reminder that change doesn’t have to be big to be meaningful. By initiating even small steps, a new wellbeing habit, an inclusive practice, or a simple conversation: we can build a culture where everyone feels supported and empowered to thrive.
