We are a next-generation Data and AI consultancy, designed to accelerate delivery and build outstanding teams for clients. We deliver services across data, AI, and cloud, and are focused on building the next generation of technology leaders. Since 2017 we have established a strong position supporting clients with their data and technology needs while delivering enduring solutions.

As part of our Core Practice, you will join a tight-knit team of motivated technology professionals where ongoing learning and development are central to our ethos and culture. You will work closely with the wider technical delivery function, the sales team, and the partner management team with a particular focus on growing our relationship with Starburst.

Role Purpose

As the Starburst Centre of Excellence Lead, you will act as the technical authority for all things Starburst; responsible for creating a Centre of Excellence to upskill colleagues in the use of Starburst as it pertains to our core capabilities (Platform Engineering, Data Engineering, ML/AI Engineering, and Data & AI Governance).

This is a hands-on role combining deep data engineering expertise with client advisory and team development responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish the Starburst Centre of Excellence, ensuring the business has the skills and experience across core disciplines to efficiently deliver high-quality solutions on Starburst.

  • Retain accountability for the development of Starburst-oriented IP, including best practices, accelerators, reusable frameworks, and reference architectures.

  • Support the partner team in growing the Starburst relationship by demonstrating technical credibility and forming trusted relationships with stakeholders.

  • Provide technical assurance for delivery projects, ensuring that solutions follow established best practice for Starburst implementations.

  • Contribute to pre-sales efforts by helping shape proposals, supporting client meetings and workshops, publishing thought leadership material, and attending industry events.

  • Serve as a technical advisor to clients, helping define data strategies and solution blueprints that leverage Starburst’s capabilities.

  • Explore how Starburst AI features can power new business offerings and co-developed IP.

  • Collaborate with colleagues across practices to design repeatable Starburst-based solutions to take to market.

Skills & Experience

Essential:

  • Significant hands-on experience designing and delivering business solutions on Starburst, including deployment in cloud, hybrid, and on-premises setups.

  • Passion for training and enablement, with a track record in upskilling colleagues and/or clients in the Starburst ecosystem.

  • Recognized Starburst certification and capstone assessment.

  • Demonstrable experience in performance and cost optimisation of Starburst environments.

  • Solid understanding of the software engineering lifecycle and modern development practices, ideally with experience in Python or similar languages.

  • Experience leading data-oriented teams and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a consulting or enterprise environment.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong technical understanding of security and access control considerations.

  • Proven experience designing or enabling data mesh architecture.

Desirable:

  • Experience in design and delivery on other modern data platforms (e.g. Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, GCP).

  • Experience designing enterprise data architectures with strong knowledge of common data modelling and change management techniques.

  • Exposure to platform observability and CI/CD for data platforms.

  • Experience with AI solutions utilizing Starburst.

  • Track record of supporting pre-sales activities in a product or consultancy environment.

Role Details

  • Contract type: Permanent

  • Salary: From $133,000, negotiable dependent on experience + bonus. Equity options available.

  • Location: Midtown Manhattan office space with modern amenities.

  • Working Pattern: Hybrid – expectation of 3–4 days per week in office and/or client locations.
