Our client is a global B2B FinTech company building modern infrastructure that powers investing and trading experiences worldwide. Through an API-first platform, they enable partners to deliver seamless, mobile-first financial products to end users across global markets.

They value accountability, collaboration, and building systems that scale — while fostering a culture that encourages experimentation, diverse perspectives, and continuous improvement.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the Core Trading Systems team. This group owns the mission-critical API layer that feeds trading infrastructure and underpins order flow, execution workflows, and real-time system interactions.

This role requires deep experience building low-latency, high-throughput, highly available distributed systems, along with strong leadership capabilities. You will work on re-engineering and scaling a mission-critical trading stack to institutional-grade standards, with a focus on resiliency, performance, and operational excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and support of mission-critical API endpoints

  • Architect and evolve systems to meet standards for scale, redundancy, resiliency, and reliability

  • Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, Architecture, DevOps, and other cross-functional teams to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions

  • Develop enhancements to existing Java applications and build new services from the ground up

  • Monitor production systems, troubleshoot issues, and support incident remediation

  • Partner with trading operations teams to support and enhance core trading infrastructure

  • Produce clear technical documentation for complex, business-critical initiatives

  • Ensure adherence to engineering and architectural best practices

  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, allocating resources to meet delivery timelines

  • Own delivery of small-to-medium sized projects and services

  • Coordinate priorities and deliverables across multiple engineering teams

What You’ll Need

  • Experience building low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems

  • Strong background in multithreading and concurrency in Java

  • Deep expertise with the FIX protocol and trading system integrations

  • Strong knowledge of Java fundamentals, data structures, and modern software engineering best practices

  • Experience writing effective unit and integration tests

  • Experience working in 24x7, highly available production environments

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills

  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience with Python scripting for task automation

  • Experience supporting complex trading stacks and financial system integrations
Strong engineering judgment and a clear understanding of high-quality system design

Nice to Have

  • Experience with React and TypeScript

  • Knowledge of JMS and message brokers such as Kafka or ActiveMQ

  • Experience with Aeron or other high-performance networking frameworks

  • Experience with PostgreSQL environments

  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and cloud-native architectures
