Senior/Staff DevOps Engineer
Hybrid – NYC
About the Company
Our client is a venture-backed AI startup solving critical NLP problems at the heart of the trillion-dollar capital markets ecosystem. Founded in 2022 and based in New York, the company is led by a high-caliber team with decades of PhD-level ML expertise and a proven track record of delivering cutting-edge solutions to the legal and financial industries.
They count several of the world’s leading law firms among their customers and have raised ~$30M to date, with their most recent round (Series A) led by Lightspeed. The company has been featured by Bloomberg Law, Business Insider, and Matt Levine, and was recently named a top AI company to watch in 2024 and 2025 by CB Insights and Business Insider.
The Opportunity
The global capital markets represent one of the largest and most complex ecosystems in the world, valued at $50T+ and growing. Legal documents play a central role in these transactions, containing nuanced terms that must be interpreted, extracted, and benchmarked by multiple stakeholders. Our client is building a platform to bring automation, clarity, and intelligence to this process—starting with infrastructure that can power a secure, data-intensive, single-tenant product suite.
Why This Role Matters
As a Senior or Staff DevOps Engineer, you’ll play a key role in designing and implementing the next generation of infrastructure that enables the company’s engineering and research teams to move fast, securely, and confidently. This role is foundational to the company’s ability to scale—ensuring performance, security, and reliability as new customers are onboarded and data complexity increases.
Without this role, the team risks slower deployments, higher operational risk, and unnecessary complexity. You’ll have outsized impact by reducing friction, enabling safer releases, and simplifying the systems that support the company’s core ML products.
What You’ll Be Doing
-
Build infrastructure with security and data privacy as core principles—not afterthoughts
-
Develop modular, reliable CI systems that empower engineers to ship with confidence
-
Write clean, well-documented Terraform code that enables engineering teams to self-serve
-
Build and improve deployment systems that automate releases and reduce incident risk
-
Simplify complex architectures into maintainable systems with clear ownership
-
Optimize cloud costs by implementing smart autoscaling and resource orchestration
-
Partner with security engineers to implement access controls that balance protection and productivity
What Our Client Is Looking For
-
6+ years of DevOps, SRE, or platform engineering experience
-
Deep expertise in AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform
-
Experience building and maintaining secure, single-tenant infrastructure
-
Strong track record designing and scaling CI/CD systems
-
Excellent collaboration, communication, and documentation skills
-
A self-starting, problem-solving mindset and ability to execute independently
Nice to Have
-
Experience implementing monitoring/alerting across isolated environments
-
Track record optimizing infrastructure performance and cloud spend
-
Experience collaborating with security teams or designing secure systems
-
Familiarity with disaster recovery best practices
-
Interest in legal tech, capital markets, economics, or complex document systems
-
Experience in fast-paced, high-leverage startup environments
Compensation
The estimated base salary range for this role is $162,000–$210,000 USD, along with a meaningful early-stage equity package. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, seniority, and impact.
Benefits
-
