Role: VP of DevOps

Role Overview

We are appointing a VP of DevOps to lead and evolve our global DevOps function. This is a brand-new leadership role, created to strengthen how we deliver software at scale, with speed, reliability, and simplicity.

You will lead a 20-person DevOps organisation operating across multiple geographies in a complex, matrixed environment. The role requires a senior leader who combines strong software engineering roots with deep DevOps experience — someone who has likely transitioned from software engineering into DevOps and understands delivery from the ground up.

Key Responsibilities

DevOps Strategy & Software Delivery

• Own the DevOps strategy to support high-velocity, high-quality software delivery.
• Enable engineering teams to ship reliably, securely, and repeatedly.
• Design and evolve scalable CI/CD, infrastructure, and deployment practices aligned with business priorities.
• Balance speed, stability, and simplicity — avoiding unnecessary complexity.

Technical Leadership

• Provide hands-on architectural leadership where needed, particularly in system design and delivery workflows.
• Bring strong judgement to technical decision-making, ensuring solutions are fit-for-purpose rather than over-engineered.
• Partner closely with engineering leadership to ensure DevOps enables, rather than constrains, product development.

People & Organisational Leadership

• Lead and develop a global DevOps team of ~20 people.
• Operate effectively within a matrix structure, influencing without direct authority where required.
• Coach and mentor leaders and ICs, fostering strong technical thinking and ownership.

Essential Experience

• Senior leadership experience in DevOps, Platform, or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Strong software engineering background with experience delivering production software at scale.
• You come from a software development background first, than have transitioned to Devops
• Proven ability to support high-velocity software delivery.
• Experience designing and evolving DevOps practices in complex environments.
• Prior exposure to Kubernetes (understanding its role and trade-offs), though not necessarily operating it day-to-day.
• Experience leading globally distributed teams in matrix organisations.
• Ability to remain hands-on at the design level when required.
